2023 Welcome Baby Impact

In 2023, 785 Welcome Baby bags were given to new parents in Strathcona County.

The Friends of Strathcona County Library have committed to funding complimentary Welcome Baby bags. This kit, filled with essential resources is designed by the library to make the early stages of parenting a little easier and a lot more enjoyable. This kit equips parents with materials that empower them to support their baby’s early literacy development from birth. It also introduces the library’s extensive services, collections, and programs dedicated to early literacy.

The library graciously provides Friends with an annual update and this year they shared that 785 Welcome Baby bags were given out to new parents in the county. This is all made possible through the contributions of you, our friends. So thank you!

Each Welcome Baby kit includes a high-quality board book, early literacy information and resources, a rhymes and songs booklet, and a reusable bag.

We are proud to share the following update from the library.

“In 2023, 785 Welcome Baby bags were given to new parents in Strathcona County. Thanks to a partnership with the Strathcona County Health Centre, parents are offered a kit at their baby’s two-month immunization appointment. While many kits are distributed within the library and on the Bookmobile, this arrangement with the Health Centre ensures this resource is accessible to all families in Strathcona County.

Staff at the Strathcona County Health Centre report that parents are thrilled to receive their Welcome Baby bag. Feedback suggests that this initiative encourages families to visit the library and support their baby’s early literacy development. The library’s team of early literacy programmers regularly sees new families at Baby Laptime programs after receiving their kit and discovering the lifelong benefits of early literacy development. Thank you to the Friends of the Strathcona County Library for continuing to support this very important initiative.”
