Meet our new Board Members!

As we mark our 30th anniversary year, we are pleased to introduce the newest members who have joined the ranks of the Friends of Strathcona County Library Board. Their dedication and passion for our library’s mission are truly inspiring, and we have no doubt that their expertise will prove invaluable in advancing the Friends’ mission to meet specific library needs, promote library services, and advocate on behalf of the library.

At the AGM on May 8, 2023, a new Board was installed, signifying a change to the way Friends has functioned. Our new Board is a working board with a two-year term, and consists of both the regular Officer positions but also Coordinator positions who will take on “jobs” on behalf of the organization. We have created double positions for the Coordinators so they can share the workload and mentor volunteers for succession planning. We are very fortunate to have found all these wonderful people to help us re-engage, re-invigorate, and generally re-build our organization after the devastation of the pandemic.

Our Board Members are:

  • Wendy Saunders, President
  • Ron Dick, Past-President
  • Anke Eller, Secretary
  • Pam Goliath, Treasurer
  • Susan Mihalievich, Membership Coordinator
  • Laura MacLelland, Membership Coordinator
  • Louise Ludwig, Events Coordinator
  • Mackenzie Clayton, Webmaster and Social Media Coordinator

You may read their full bios on the Our People page on our website. We are actively recruiting a Vice-President and a second Webmaster and Social Media Coordinator. If you are interested in volunteering for one of these positions, please apply by email to info@friendsscl.ca.

As we warmly welcome our new Board members, it is also a bittersweet moment as we bid farewell to some of our long-standing advocates who have completed their tenure with the Board. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Gillian Young, Ken Glover, Peggy Fleet, Mary Jean MacKenzie, and Ingrid Rehn for their leadership, dedication and commitment to Friends. Their legacy will continue to inspire us as we move forward, building upon the foundation they have helped lay.

Change brings new opportunities for growth and progress, and we are excited to embark on this journey with our new Board members. Together, with the torch passed from our outgoing members, we will forge ahead, re-engaging our volunteer community and re-creating the future of Friends.
