Throughout the year, we have several opportunities for you to get involved without making a long-term commitment.
If you are willing and able to help us out, please sign up here. You do not need to be a member to volunteer, but you do need to register with us. (If you want to be a member, check the membership box rather than the volunteer on the registration form.)

Volunteers, whether or not they are members, are important to the Friends and to the Strathcona County Library. We will use your personal information to contact you about the events you have signed up for, coming volunteer opportunities that you may be interested in, and new items posted on this web site.
We will share your personal information only with the volunteer coordinator of the Strathcona County Library, if you have given your permission, and only when the Library requests additional volunteers for library events. We will not share your information with any other party. By registering with the Friends on this site, you are agreeing that the Friends or the Strathcona County Library may contact you from time to time as outlined here.

2023 Fall Feast of Words

DETAILS:
The library is looking for two volunteers per evening to set up the book sale table and handle sales of the presenter’s books before and after their author talk. Volunteers are welcome to join the audience for the presentation. At the end of the event, the author(s) will join you at the book sale table to sign books and interact with event attendees.
Depending upon their comfort level, volunteers may be asked to assist with taking photos, checking in patrons, and last minute set up details.
The time commitment is approximately 2-2.5 hours each event beginning at 6:30PM.

Jessica Johns, Bad Cree
Jessica Johns is a nehiyaw aunty with English-Irish ancestry and a member of Sucker Creek First Nation. Her debut novel, Bad Cree mixes horror, magical realism and mystery, and was shortlisted for the Amazon First Novel Award and won the MacEwan Book of the Year award.

Ali Bryan, The Crow Valley Karaoke Championships
Award-winning author Ali Bryan’s darkly comedic and fast-paced novel is set to the soundtrack of classics belted out with abandon. Calgary-based Ali Bryan is a novelist and creative nonfiction writer who explores the what-ifs and the wait-a-minutes of everyday life. Ali’s work ranges from laugh-out-loud books about family to dystopian teen thrillers.

Zazie Todd, Purr: The Science of Making Your Cat Happy
Zazie Todd is an animal behaviour expert and award-winning author of Wag: The Science of Making Your Dog Happy and Purr: The Science of Making Your Cat Happy. She’ll be talking about her process for turning her life’s work into books, being a go-to expert on pets, and her mission to inspire people to have happier pets.

Sharon Butala, Leaving Wisdom
Sharon Butala is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a three-time Governor General's Literary Award nominee, and is the author of twenty-one books, as well as numerous essays, articles, poetry, and plays. Her, new novel, Leaving Wisdom, explores memory, family, and the long shadow of World War II through the story of a retiring social worker in the Canadian Prairies.

Thomas Trofimuk, The Elephant on Karlův Bridge
In award-winning Albertan author Thomas Trofimuk’s most ambitious book yet, an elephant escapes from the Prague Zoo and wanders through the city, altering the lives everyone she meets. The author masterfully convinces us to accept that a bridge can tell a story, that art is integral to our survival, and that an elephant can scatter flashes of insight in her wake.
