Last weekend, Friends of Strathcona County Library was part of a unique community event. Raeleen and Dean of Rae-Dean Trucking host an annual summer party with fundraising elements woven throughout, choosing a different beneficiary each year. This year, Friends had that honour.
There was a lot of planning, organizing, and volunteering behind the scenes. Many contributed to the silent auction and we oversaw it throughout the day. Despite the stormy ending, the event was a success, and an incredible $7,000 was raised in Friends’ name.
This is amazing and speaks to the hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm everyone brought to the event. From collecting donations early on, bidding in the silent auction, and participating in the other fundraising activities, to the “holy cow—the sky is looking black—pull in the tables!” shift, this event was successful because everyone was willing to pitch in wherever they were needed.
To everyone who came out to enjoy the party, we hope you had an amazing time! We know we did. Thank you for supporting Rae-Dean Trucking, Friends of Strathcona County Library, and the Strathcona County Library itself. Every ticket purchased, every bid placed, every game played, and every donation made helped make this event such a tremendous success.
We want to send a huge, giant, library-loving thank you to everyone who helped plan, organize, donate, and volunteer last Saturday. Thank you to the library for whole heartedly supporting this event when it was first mentioned to showing up on the day of with even more donations. A special thank you to Raeleen, Dean, and the entire host family, who put so much time, effort, creativity, and hospitality into making this party happen. What an honour for Friends to be selected as this year’s beneficiary, and by extension, to support the Library and the community they serve and we love.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, Friends of Strathcona County Library is able to continue supporting the Strathcona County Library with different initiatives. Over the past year alone, Friends has purchased $5,500 worth of Wonderbooks for the Bookmobile, pledged $6,000 to support this year’s Welcome Baby program, and, new this year, committed an additional $5,000 to provide prize books for children participating in Strathcona County Library’s Kids Reading Challenge. Fundraisers like this help make initiatives like these possible, ensuring readers of all ages continued to be inspired.
