Congratulations to Gillian Young! The Muriel Abdurahman Volunteer Award Recipient

We are so excited to announce that our very own Gillian Young is the recipient of this year’s Muriel Abdurahman Volunteer Award! Congratulations Gill, and thank you for your dedication and volunteerism for the library over the years. Gill is extremely honoured to accept this award, especially as Muriel Abdurahman (the namesake of this award) was the Mayor of Fort Saskatchewan where Gill previously lived for 19 years. Gillian Young is a long-serving member of Friends and is more recently serving as the Secretary on the Friends board.

This award was created to honor the vision and commitment of the late Muriel Abdurahman, who served as a volunteer member and later as the Board Chair of the Strathcona County Library Board. Muriel exemplified an incredible can-do attitude and the ability to engage others in achieving shared goals. She went beyond the traditional definition of “volunteer” and embodied the best qualities that volunteers contribute to the Strathcona County Library.

The Muriel Abdurahman Volunteer Award is presented annually to a deserving volunteer or volunteer group associated with Strathcona County Library. The recipients may not necessarily be the most widely known or longest-serving volunteers, but they are recognized for their passion and commitment to their work. Award recipients have their names engraved on a plaque displayed at the Strathcona County Library.
