On April 21, 1993, 9 individuals met and adopted the constitution and bylaws of the Friends of Strathcona County Library and created a vision for the future.
On October 12, 2018 the Friends of Strathcona County Library gathered to celebrate 25 wonderful years and to recognize the efforts of the past and present hardworking volunteers who continue to provide a solid foundation to raise funds to meet special library needs, to promote library services and to advocate on behalf of the Library. We were honoured to have Rod Frank (Mayor), Annie McKitrick (MLA Sherwood Park), Estefania Cortes-Vargas (MLA Strathcona-Sherwood Park), and Sharon Siga, CEO, Strathcona County Library say a few words of welcome and congratulations.
The event was held at Salisbury Greenhouse. The Sproule family is a great supporter of the Friends and of the Library, so it was very fitting that we were able to host the event there.
Since its inception in 1993, the Friends of Strathcona County Library has raised over $500,000 for the Strathcona County Library. While a full history is posted elsewhere, a short list of the forms that our fundraising events have taken over the years includes:
- The incredible water garden tour which morphed into the Garden Tour;
- Historical Tour
- Easter Egg-Stravaganza;
- Books Bites & Bubbly
- 50/50 draws with the Edmonton Oilers
- Christmas Gift Wrap
- Casinos
- And new for 2018 – the Friends cooked up hot dogs/burgers at the Sobey’s on Baseline Road
The Friends greatly values all of our members and volunteers who have and continue to step up to the plate when the call goes out.
We capped the evening with, what else? cutting the cake. The evening was enjoyed by all who came.
