What is the Book Swap & Social all about?
The Library Lovers Book Swap & Social is the heart of the event, where attendees bring a selection of books they’ve read and are ready to part with. These can be any type of books—fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, or even cookbooks. As guests arrive, they’ll add their books to a designated swapping area where participants can browse and select new books to take home. It’s a great way to refresh your collection, discover new titles, and meet like-minded book lovers in your community. As you browse enjoy coffee courtesy of Roasti along with some light treats.
It’s also a chance to reconnect with Friends – share your love of reading and our library.
This event is a celebration of the community built around the library. If you’re already a Friend (of Friends of Strathcona County Library), this is a chance to connect with others who share your passion. For new attendees, it’s an opportunity to learn about how Friends contributes to the library and explore ways you can get involved.
What if I don't have any books to bring?
No problem! If you’d still like to participate, consider visiting a local thrift store, such as County Clothes-Line or The Bookworm, to find a book you’ve loved and would recommend to someone else. The spirit of the swap is about sharing stories and discovering new reads, so even a secondhand gem can make a great contribution.
Is there a limit to how many books I can take?
We encourage a fair and balanced swap! Please take no more books than you’ve brought. However, if you’re only able to contribute 1 or 2 books, we kindly ask that you take no more than 10.
To ensure there are plenty of books for everyone, Friends board members have been collecting donations and gathering books ahead of time, so there will be a well-stocked selection available when you arrive. Our goal is to make sure all attendees have a chance to find something new to enjoy while keeping the swap sustainable for the community.
What does my ticket include?
Each ticket grants you entry to the event, door prize entries, refreshments, and the opportunity to connect with fellow book lovers—all while supporting Friends-funded initiatives at the Strathcona County Library.
We wanted to keep this event affordable, and thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we’ve received wonderful in-kind donations. Some sponsors are providing delicious treats, while others have contributed fantastic raffle prizes. Because of their contributions, your ticket purchase will act more like a donation to Friends, directly supporting Friends-funded library programs and initiatives. We truly appreciate your support in helping us give back to the library and our community.
Can I buy extra door prize entries?
No, additional door prize entries will not be available for purchase. Each event ticket includes two chances to win, allowing you to choose which prizes you’d like to enter for. This ensures everyone has a fair chance to win while keeping the focus on community and fun!
